Many of us with horses have suffered the financial burden of increased costs for hay and fuel. Those of us who rescue horses count on your donations of any amount to help defray these costs as well as the costs to rehabilitate, retrain and rehome the horses we rescue.  A tax deductible donation may be made directly to:

Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue
36785 Ramah Rd. E.
Ramah, CO 80832.

All donations are used for horse care, rehabilitation, and retraining.  There are no salaried employees of Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue.

In addition to cash donations, all of our horses would gratefully accept hay, feed, supplements, dewormers, first aid supplies and farrier work.

A $5 donation deworms a horse.

$10  buys carrots or treats for our horses.

$20 vaccinates a horse.

$35 trims a horse's hooves.

$50 buys three bags of feed for a special needs horse.

$75-$200 helps us save a horse from slaughter.

$100 provides the services of an equine dentist.

$1000 feeds, vaccinates, deworms, floats and provides farrier care for one healthy horse for one year.

Your donation is tax deductible as a contribution to a charitable organization under the IRS code 501(c)(3).

You may wish to sponsor a horse.  Please review the list below if you are able to provide food, supplies or services for any of these more special needs horses.  We will gladly keep you updated on the horse's progress.

RACER is a 20-25YO grade quarterhorse gelding who was relinquished to Ruby Ranch about 200 pounds underweight.  He was losing weight due to "the worst mouth" that the equine dentist had ever seen.  She pulled a back tooth which had a very long hook on it, preventing him from chewing properly. She also discovered two infected teeth that needed pulling along with evidence of other teeth missing because of inappropriate dental care.   He is on a diet of beet pulp pellets and alfalfa cubes which we soak and feed to him three times a day.  We are hoping that once his mouth settles down he will be able to eat hay.

LADY is over 30 years old.  She is a petite white Arabian who was emaciated when she first came to us.  She had a heavy canvas blanket tied to her with baling twine.  Under the blanket we found multiple infected wounds and she was covered with lice.  She is now full of energy in a small herd of mares and fillies.  Lady has had four teeth pulled over the past year.  They simply are worn out.  Because she continues to "quid" her hay, she requires a mash with beet and alfalfa pellets and receives senior feed twice a day to help her maintain the weight she has gained. See her picture on the "Our Horses" page.

SOPHIE came to us on June 20, 2007.  She was severely emaciated and will need months of special feeding protocol to become healthy again.  Sophie is an alert mustang mare who gives us the indication that she wants to live.  As time goes on, her needs include supplementation with a probiotic, senior feed, soaked hay cubes and beet pulp.  She requires several appointments with the equine dentist.  She has made great strides since coming to RRHR.  See her before and after pictures under "Our Horses."  UPDATE:  April 12, 2008:  Sophie and her daughter, Penny, were adopted to a loving home near Strasburg, CO.  They have 35 acres and the company of two friendly donkeys who came from Longhopes Donkey Shelter.  Thank you to Becky and Deb for giving these animals a very bright future!

TWISTER is a 25YO red roan Appaloosa gelding who was "used up" at an early age.  After about 20 minutes of riding his arthritic hocks get sore and he lets you know by crow-hopping.  Joint supplements help his hocks feel better and give him a better attitude.  He also has Cushing's Disease and requires the drug pergolide daily.  Twister was Ruby's best friend and will live out his life at Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue.

BOND is a friendly, mild-mannered and nicely trained 7YO American Saddlebred.  He is gorgeously black, very up-headed and engaging in his personality.  Bond was kicked in the shoulder and needs some healing time.  He requires special supplements for this injury, a little extra grain for weight maintenance and injections in his shoulder to reduce inflammation and pain.  If he can overcome this injury he will not ever be ridable again.  See Bond's picture on his page under "Our Horses."  UPDATE:  May 16, 2008:  Sadly, Bond was euthanized to alleviate the pain from his severely injured shoulder.

FIFI is a beautiful black 19YO Thoroughbred mare who was used very hard as a polo horse.  She has arthritis in one of her pastern joints and does well when given a joint supplement daily.  She also cribs and has worn down her front teeth.  When there is no pasture to graze on, she does best with a complete feed to maintain her weight.  See her picture under "Our Horses."
