FREMONT COUNTY HORSES
July 25: Juliet has been adopted and was presented to Karly today for her birthday. It was a surprise and this seven year old little girl was awe-struck that Juliet was now hers. Karly and Juliet have been taking lessons together since May. It's a good fit and we are thankful that Sweet Juliet went to a delightful family.
June 30: Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue was notified by the District Attorney's office in Canon City that Restitution has been awarded to us in this abuse case. That means we have the chance to recover nearly $5000 of initial expenses to rehabilitate these horses.
May 15, 2010: Juliet is in training at Deseos Arabians. You can view her training journal at www.DeseosArabians.com. She is a smart and calm girl and is quickly learning all of her lessons.
April 14, 2010: Click on this link to review the outcome of the Geraldine Rem sentencing hearing.
April 13, 2010 - Little Tallula was laid to rest today. She could not overcome the massive infection she acquired in utero. We can't help but wonder that if her mom, Juliet, had been well cared for all her life, this would have had a different outcome. Geraldine Rem, the perpetrator in this case, has agreed to a plea bargain and will have a sentencing hearing on April 14. We have been asked by the District Attorney's office to speak at this hearing, giving a voice to the many horses that suffered from her neglect and cruelty.
April 1, 2010 - Juliet had her foal, Tallula, on March 28. Tallula had a rough start but is doing better now, showing spurts of energy and nursing fairly well. The blue bandage is where the catheter was.

January 2010 - Shania has been adopted! Thank you to Chay Usnick for providing her with an excellent home!
November 21, 2009 - Juliet, a 5YO bay paint mare, is pregnant. Her vet check indicates a possible late April or early May foal date.
November 2009 - Colby has been adopted! Thank you to Dr. Dawn Mlatecek in Silverthorne for providing that excellent home.
October 22, 2009 - The two mares with slipper feet, Stella and Missy, along with Stella's foal, Libby, were picked up from Ruby Ranch by Front Range Equine Rescue in September. We were told that Stella and Missy were no longer doing well and they have been euthanized. Stella's foal, Libby (Stella's Liberator), along with Chloe's foal, Trance Gemini, were adopted by Lori and Jim at Deseos Arabians. Chloe was also euthanized by Front Range Equine Rescue.
August 4, 2009 - It's been almost a month since we picked up 17 horses from the Sheriff in Fremont County. Four of the horses have been moved to two other rescues. Horse Protection League in Golden, www.cohpl.org, has Glory and her colt Tiger (picture below). Rocky Mountain Horse Rescue in Arvada, www.rockymountainhorserescue.org, has Shania and Keira (see their pages under "Our Horses"). The two mares with the slipper feet, Missy and Stella, have been x-rayed and trimmed twice. Although the prognosis is guarded, there is hope that their hooves will recover over time. They are currently residing at Ruby Ranch along with Stella's baby, Libby. We also have Colby (see his page under "Our Horses") who stood for the farrier and can be handled all over. He is starting to lead up nicely and is putting on some weight, which he needs. Raina is also with us at RRHR and has her own page as well, although will be transported to a foster home in the next week or so. She is learning to pick up her feet and has caught on to leading very well. Juliet is staying with us until a small lump on her face can be assessed. We were told by Front Range that the bay gelding named Wyatt did not survive colic.
July 9-10, 2009 -We have spent the past two days transporting 17 horses from the custody of the Fremont County Sheriff's Department. Our story began with contact from Scot Dutcher, Chief of the Bureau of Animal Protection. This state agency was assisting Fremont County Sheriff Jim Biecker in finding rescue facilities to take these horses. Many are thin, several pregnant, one with foal, several with old infected injuries, two with severely deformed and neglected hooves, two thin five year old stallions and one 21 year old who is severely emaciated. They all need hoof care, deworming, vaccinations, floats, food, training and veterinary assessment. None have been halter trained.
Here's Shania (Adopted!), age 11. Shania has good weight and follows us if we have treats.
Keira (Adopted!), age 2, is a goofy girl, easy to handle. She has a page on our website as well.
Juliet, age 5, is curious and can be handled all over. See her page under Our Horses. Update - she's pregnant!
Meet Glory and her baby, Tiger: Glory and Tiger (Adopted!) are residing at Horse Protection League in Golden, www.cohpl.org. Please contact them for adoption information.
Raina was checked by the vet and it was discovered that she had a foal recently. We are assuming that it is the 11 week old baby that was caught up in barbed wire and saved by a neighbor. Raina is 13 years old and one of the few with good weight. See her page on our website.

This is Stella: She is undergoing a series of hoof trims to help her hooves back to normalcy. She is very thin and about 6 years old.

Below is Lil Missy. Her hooves are just as severe as Stella's. She is also very thin and is undergoing hoof trims in hopes of making her sound. Lil Missy is 5 years old and about 90-120 days pregnant. Update - Although not confirmed, we believe she was also euthanized by Front Range Equine Rescue.
