Luna after a rainstorm.

Luna is a well built grade quarterhorse mare, approximate date of birth is spring, 2006.  She came to Ruby Ranch with her pal, SaraJane, from a neglectful situation.  Luna is a smart girl, sensitive to energy and is learning to work in the roundpen.  She caught on quickly to halter training and we will continue with ground games and handling to get her more accustomed to humans.  She is curious, easy to catch and stands well for the farrier.

Update:  Luna has thin soles according to the x-rays of her front feet.  Dr. Davisons's assessment (Colorado Equine) is that it is probably due to malnutrition.  Our farrier, Zac Sanger, is gingerly attending to Luna's feet and both vet and farrier feel she needs time to grow new hoof.  She is mostly sound but after standing for awhile, she moves off with tender steps.  Luna is on a biotin hoof supplement and we are expecting her issues will be resolved as new hoof growth continues, and certainly by the end of winter, in time for spring training.

Update:  Luna has grown out some nice hoof and is no longer "ginger" when getting about.  She easily runs and cavorts with her other herdmates and has shown no signs of tenderness.  She is a sweet and trusting girl, just waiting for her experienced human to claim her.
