The following horses are owned privately.  They are in need of new homes. Any information posted below came from the owner of the horse.  RRHR has not seen these horses and cannot verify that information is accurate.   Please contact the owners of these horses with your questions
To the owners of the horses below:  PLEASE verify who is picking up your horse and that they can provide a good home! Consider NOT turning over ownership papers for several months (or EVER) until you do a home visit. Get it in writing!
Slaughter buyers, hoarders and people with little integrity prey upon lists that advertise a free or low cost horse - know who you are dealing with!

URGENT: January: Moon (Adopted!) is a gorgeous buckskin mare, registered QH, 10 years old and close to 15 hands. She is well trained and is also that "husband safe" horse that everyone looks for.  Her owner, Justine, is in need of finding her a new good home as soon as possible.  Moon was about to be sold when it was discovered under saddle that she is lame, either from a kick or possibly from a slip and fall.  She does not show lameness when out to pasture. Now that Justine's husband has returned from Afghanistan, she needs to down-size to one horse and has given up her space for Moon. Moon is located in Colorado Springs.  Contact Justine at 509-850-7428 for more information. Moon is free to that very good home.

January: Inca is a 10 year old registered QH mare with Doc Bar bloodlines. Trained as a patrol horse, Inca loves to cover trails. She is retiring from therapeutic riding classes and is ready for a new job! She is a sweet girl with a lot of go and would be excellent for trails and endurance riding. Contact Michelle at (719) 495-3908.

January: Sabre is 3 yr old TB cross approx 15 h gelding. Not started under saddle as he's a late summer baby so immature this summer. He's a typical TB, sensitive but with the right handling he learns to accept things. Has worn blankets and a surcingle. UTD on everything. Will need spring shots, etc. Trailer loads, people oriented, a bit of a clown. Uphill conformation and movement so dressge maybe. An adoption fee of $500 is asked but for the right home it's negotiable. Sabre is located in Peyton. Contact Diane at 719-660-2680.

January:  Babe (Adopted!) needs a new home.  Ed is retired and just wants her to go to the best possible home.  She is 14.3, line-back dun, registered QH, Doc Bar lineage, 12 years old; high energy, great endurance, very athletic, good conformation.  She has been packed and ridden in the mountains, stands for the farrier, and is more suitable for the experienced rider.  Babe is located in Watkins.  Contact Ed at 303-644-5700 or 719-207-2733 for more information.  Ed would like a contribution to help with her costs if possible.

December:  Moun and Lakota (Yea! Their owners are able to keep them! No longer available.) need a new home. Moun is a 14.2 registered Arabian gelding, well trained and trail savvy.  He needs a confident rider. Lakota is a grey 15H Arab/QH mare. She is very gentle and suitable for a beginner.  Both horses have been used in an equine-assisted psychotherapy program.  They are located in Parker.  Contact Rhonda at luv4hrses@msn.com for more information.

December:  Princess (Adopted!) needs a home.  She is an 18YO striking dun mare who was a PMU rescue some years ago.  She has been started under saddle and a training video is available. She has gentle ground manners, is sweet, kind and easy to handle.  Princess is in good health with great hooves. Natural horsemanship has been used in her training.  She is about 15H. Contact Mary at 720-309-5903 for more information.  Princess is located near I-70 and Kipling and is free to that good home.

December:  Sahara (Adopted!) needs a home!  Financial difficulties force Mary into giving up her lovely 3YO grade filly.  Sahara is of good weight and in good health.  She has been started under saddle.  Mary says she can ride her all over the property, around the barn and out buildings. She is green and needs someone to bring her along in her training. Contact Mary at 719-477-3076.  Sahara is located in Ellicott and is free to that good home.

December:  Family Emergency! 5YO paint mare needs a home  immediatelyThe family is leaving town on December 12 and needs a home for their horse, 14.2H, 60 days professional training, easy ground manners, good health with no lameness issues.  Call Michael at 303-670-3562 for more information. They are located in Evergreen.

December:  Cheyenne and Gypsy are available to a new home.  They were rescued by The Circle G Ranch and Rescue when RRHR rescued the emaciated Shay and Longhopes Donkey Shelter rescued the equally emaciated donkey. They are two sweet and friendly appaloosa mares, ages 10 and 11, possibly sisters. They have a clean bill of health from the vet and are up-to-date on vaccinations, deworming, and hoof trims. The Cirgle G prefers they go to a home together. There is no adoption fee but a nominal donation would be appreciated.  Contact Circle G (Bev and Jim) at thecirclegranch@elpasotel.net.  They are located in Yoder.

December:  Molly is a 10 year old reg. Welsh pony.  She was rescued when the people that owned her were moving. She has a bad old scar on her back leg. This hoof hadn't been worked on in many years. The farrier came and helped alot. She still is lame in that leg but gets around real well. A very sweet pony that would make a good companion. Adoption fee is $100 that will be donated to Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue. She is located in Falcon, Colorado. Please call Melissa 683-4775 or Myra 237-4135.

November:  Gambler (Adopted!) is a fancy Thoroughbred gelding, 7 years old, 16.2H, who needs a new home.  He is rehabilitating from an SI joint injury.  His prognosis is good for returning to low level dressage training. He would also make a flashy trail partner. He is an awesome ride, has great feet, stands for the farrier, ties and trailers with no problem.  He is low man in the herd and would rather play than cause problems. His owner, Kristi, is willing to place him for free to a good loving home with a contract and references. She has video available of him schooling, his flying lead changes and two beat tempi's. He is currently in Fort Collins and can be seen by appointment. Contact Kristi at 214-797-5896, kcanoval@yahoo.com.

November:  Blue and Red need new homes due to financial difficulties. Blue is a 17YO registered breeding stock mare (SH Baby Blue) from QH racing bloodlines.  She is 15.2+, chesnut and has been started but very green. She needs an experienced trainer to bring her along. Red is a 20+ year old Missouri Fox-Trotter, sorrel, about 14.3H, well trained and quiet as a trail horse.  He has some arthritis in hind legs and should no longer carry riders. Both horses are free to good homes and are located in Elizabeth.  Call Lynette at 303-646-2096 for more information.

October:  Ferango and Frosty need to find new homes.  Ferango is a 16H+ overo paint gelding who is a gentle giant. He is 19 or 20 years old. Frosty is a 14.2 or so Arabian mare, dappled grey.  Both are well trained under saddle, will trailer load, stand for the farrier and have been well cared for.  They have not been ridden in the past couple of years and will need a little refresher course but they have both been gentle and calm under saddle.  Deniece regretfully offers them to excellent homes for a small re-homing fee.  Contact her at rdrsmith@yahoo.com or 719-439-0203 or 719-495-7615.  They are located in Black Forest.

October:  Coneja, Convict and Racer need new homes.  Coneja is a 10YO QH/Arabian grey mare.  She is gentle on the ground, can wear a saddle but has not been ridden.  Coneja tends to be on the shy side and sometimes a little skittish however she is sweet.  Convict is Coneja's 6YO son.  He is sorrel, has worn a saddle, is easy to catch and gentle.  Racer is a 10YO draft cross gelding, about 16H and very stout.  He is also easy to catch and has worn a saddle but not ridden.  They all stand for the farrier and are easy horses to be around.  Their owner would like to offer them free to good homes.  They are located in LaJunta.  Call Bill at 719-947-5500 for more information.

October: Cochiti (Adopted!) is a 5YO, 13.2 hh bay tobiano pony gelding. He was rescued directly from a slaughter lot and may have been used in "wild pony races" on an Indian reservation. The repair of some very painful and serious dental conditions has been completed. He is now happy and healthy. He is green broke to ride but the slightest thing that you can't really predict can send him into a wild horse fit under saddle. He is fine to catch, load, stands tied, ok for the farrier, saddles and bridles well, and has just learned to lunge. He would be a nice companion animal as he seems to get along with all the others or alternately if you are of a natural horsemanship background potentially he could be a very rewarding project. Contact Whitney at raykour@aol.com. Cochiti is located in Berthoud. He is free to an approved home.

October: (All Four Adopted!)  Four paint weanlings (colts and fillies) and two blue roan yearlings (colt and filly) need help getting out of a slaughter-bound situation.  They were auctioned and it will take $175/weanling and $250/yearling to get them released.  They are out of a point-earning AQHA stallion from a well-known ranch.  The mares did not DNA check so no chance for papers.  They are healthy and in excellent condition.  There is help hauling to the Colorado Springs area if needed.  Call Carrie at 719-478-2058 for more information. The black/white filly is about 5 months old and her adoption fell through.  She is still available.

Black/white filly still available!

October:  Hope (Adopted!) is a 13 year old paint, who needs a new home. She was one of a large group rescued from a north Wyoming breeder about three months ago. She has been dewormed, her hooves have been trimmed and she has had a float. Hope had a foal a week after she was rescued and they are both doing fine. The foal was weaned early so that Hope could regain the weight she needs. Hope needs a patient trainer to teach her not to bite. A trainer has been working with her and feels she needs consistency with human contact. Her present owner is not experienced enough to bring her along.  Hope likes to be the alpha in the small herd she is in now.  For more information contact Leslie at lbertram1@yahoo.com. Hope's baby is not for adoption.

October: Smokie is a 5YO registered buckskin tobiano mare, between 14H and 15H. She has been ridden about 6-7 times with no buck or rear but slowly going along at a walk or trot, whatever is asked of her. At 9 months old, Smokie had an accident and broke the left side of her pelvis.  Three veterinarians concur that she may be suitable for continued light riding, however she has mostly been a pasture companion. She has a sweet disposition and is low in the herd hierarchy. Smokie stands well for hoof trims but needs her farrier to accomodate a lower position on the hind legs and give her a moment to adjust her weight. Contact Gloria at 970-397-2970 or gcampbell50@yahoo.com. Smokie is located in Eaton.

September:  Nishka is a 12YO mustang gelding who needs a new home.  He has been ground trained, worn a saddle but not started riding yet.  He is about 14.2 and bay.  Nishka is a gelding who takes a bit to warm up to someone new, but once the trust is established he accepts his new human.  He needs patience with handling his feet.  He is free to a good home and located in Colorado Springs.  Call Pat at 719-237-3325 for more information.

August:  What’s brown and white and big all over? That’s Bunny, our sweet draft mare. Bunny is a local gal, born and raised in the Elbert/Peyton area. She’s done dressage, lessons and shows, as well as being a pleasure ride for her owner. Bunny joined the Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center just over a year ago and has been a favorite in our military program. She is 12 now and stands 16.2 hands.  Recently, Bunny suffered a stifle injury that makes her no longer suitable for our program. Bunny is currently in Elbert at the Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center. Please contact Michelle for more information on adopting Bunny. 719-495-3908
