Ruby Ranch is negotiating the release of up to five neglected Arabians. They have been in the custody of a woman who has been investigated twice for animal cruelty. They are thin and in poor health, in need of hoof care, floats and rehabilitation. They are a yearling (who looks like a weanling), a 7 year old broodmare, a 2 year old studcolt, a 2YO filly and a 13 year old stallion. Obviously the stallion and studcolt, if released to RRHR, will be gelded. More information and pictures on the Mulberry Rd. Arabians page.

ACTHA Ride to Benefit Ruby Ranch!
Ruby Ranch was designated as one the beneficiaries of the recent ACTHA (American Competitive Trail Horse Assn.) ride in Westcliffe, CO. A world record was broken when over 1600 riders throughout the United States participated in judged trail rides with obstacles for the "Ride for the Rescues" event. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to RRHR. We thank ACTHA for including us in this event and encourage all of you trail riders to go to www.actha.com to see how you too can participate in this fun activity with rides scheduled throughout the year.

Weekend Camp to Benefit Ruby Ranch!
Deseos Arabians held a 3-day horsemanship camp on Fri., Sat., and Sun., June 25-27, at their facility near Calhan. One-half of the proceeds was donated to Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue. A huge THANK YOU to Lori Torrini and Jim Barrentine, all of the volunteers from Ruby Ranch and from Deseos Arabians who made this camp a big success! Go to www.deseosarabians.com for more information about all of their summer activities. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Joe Needs Help!
Joe is a registered QH gelding who injured his left pastern joint on May 19. He punctured the tendon sheath and needs a specific antibiotic infusion into the sheath to curtail infection. He's at Dr. Unruh's office (Colorado Equine Veterinary Services in Peyton) until May 28. We are asking for donations to help cover his veterinary expenses. With the expenses around losing the recent fight for Tallula's life, Juliet's foal, Ruby Ranch is in need of a larger donation base to help out Joe. If it's within your means, please send whatever is comfortable. And you know that every little bit helps! (See updates on Joe's progress on his page under "Our Horses.")

Juliet's Journal
Sweet Juliet, one of the Fremont Pintabians, is now at Deseos Arabians for training. You can see her page on their website at http://www.deseosarabians.com/JulietsJournal.html. Juliet lost her foal, Tallula about 5 weeks ago to a massive abdominal infection. Juliet is a lovely bay pinto Arabian, about 5-6 years old. She is a calm and willing mare who will make a great partner for her next human. ______________________________________________________________________________________

Sad News
Our sweet mare, Juliet, one of the Fremont County Pintabians rescued last July, had her foal on March 28. We struggled for two weeks with little Tallula and laid her to rest this morning, April 13. She had a massive infection that was not addressed by antibiotics. Her struggle is over - may she rest in peace. See the Fremont County page for more information.

ALERT!
April 1: We were at the scene of another case of negligence on S. Calhan Hwy., Calhan, CO. There are five horses remaining on the property, three of them very thin. The two fillies are most likely in foal and they are three years old. The paint stallion is the sire but he is dead. There are also two very friendly geldings and a pony stallion. See pictures and more information on the S. Calhan Hwy Horses page. ______________________________________________________________________________________

Air Force Academy Equestrian Club
Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue was pleased to host the AFA Equestrian Club as volunteers. These young men and women, 18 in all, tackled a variety of jobs that included general ranch clean-up, barn chores and deworming all of our horses. Irene Klarich, one of our board members, and Cadet Dayna Grant organized this volunteer effort. Irene also brought plenty of food to feed our hungry cadets. These men and women are some of the most polite, helpful and dedicated people and are to be recognized and congratulated for a job well done. We sincerely thank them!
