Air Force Academy Equestrian Club
Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue was pleased to host the AFA Equestrian Club as volunteers on Saturday and Sunday, March 6-7. These young men and women, 18 in all, tackled a variety of jobs that included general ranch clean-up, barn chores and deworming all of our horses. Irene Klarich, one of our board members, and Cadet Dayna Grant organized this volunteer effort. Irene also brought plenty of food to feed our hungry cadets. These men and women are some of the most polite, helpful and dedicated people and are to be recognized and congratulated for a job well done. We sincerely thank them!

Thank you!
Fred and Vicki Hanson for a very generous monetary donation!
Marilyn Stoen, also for a very generous monetary donation!
During a depressed economy, charitable contributions decrease. Your donations substantially assist us in the ability to continue to provide care and rehabilitation for rescued horses. Thank you!

Lauretta Boyd Charitable Trust
Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue was recently honored with a grant from the Lauretta Boyd Charitable Trust for training our younger horses and retraining those who need it. Currently in training with Kirk Stanley and Karina Lewis are Cindy and Ginger. Next month we will send Kiowa and Skye, then Sparkie and Miko. Please see information about these horses on the "Our Horses" page. A heartfelt thank you to the trustees of the Lauretta Boyd Charitable Trust for recognizing this need.

John and Sharon Aaland
Our pregnant Juliet (one of the Fremont County rescues) is now being sponsored by John and Sharon of Calhan. In addition to providing for her "in foal" needs, we are lucky to have mucking and brushing help as well. A great big THANK YOU!

Matt and Debbie Girard
Matt and Debbie have taken on sponsorship of Miss Penelope, one of the recent Funk Road horses. Penelope needs soaked mush because of the deformities of her mouth. Matt and Debbie are providing bags of beet pulp pellets, alfalfa cubes and senior feed. In addition, these two hard working people are here three days a week to help us with chores and horses. THANK YOU!

Karina Lewis and Kirk Stanley: THANK YOU!
Karina and Kirk provided hoof trims at no charge for a number of our horses, including Penelope, one of the recent Funk Road abused horses. Karina and Kirk specialize in the barefoot trim and performed wonders on some of our more resistant-to-be-handled horses. They are kind and patient and oh so knowledgeable! Please see their contact information on our "Favorite Links" page.

Funk Road Abuse Case
January 15 - See update on this case on the Funk Road Horses page.
Seven horses are at risk on Funk Road, Calhan, CO. Ruby Ranch picked up Penelope, age 4, on Sunday morning (Dec. 20). She is a "1" on the Henneke scale, meaning she is severely emaciated. She was born with congenital problems with her jaw and legs and has been starving to death because of lack of food and because she cannot process enough hay to keep her alive. The other horses are from a "1" to a "4" on the Henneke scale. The neighbors, Melissa and Jeff, have been in contact with El Paso Sheriff and they are caring for four of the horses since they were found wandering on the road last week. A young foal was killed by a car at that time. The remaining three horses are on their owner's property with no water and no hay, confined to pens. Melissa and Jeff are also feeding and watering these horses. See "Funk Road Horses" for pictures and more information.
______________________________________________________________________________________ New Loafing Shed Project at Ruby Ranch!
Thanks to our own Roger Kavan, volunteers Matt Girard, Brendan Rudack and Madison Levin, we have a great start on a new loafing shed for our west pasture. Also a huge thank you to Mountain View Electric for donating the poles (former power poles) that are usually sold to the public!

Lori Torrini of Deseos Arabians and our boy Pfaser!
We were both pleased and privileged to have Lori Torrini, trainer from Deseos Arabians, ride our own registered Arabian, Pfaser. Pfaser is up for adoption. Lori's assessment: Definitely green but willing, calm and smart. To see more pictures and information about Pfaser go to his page under "Our Horses." Lori and husband, Jim Barrentine, brought several of their students and friends to Ruby Ranch for a brisk Saturday morning to meet and handle some of the rescue horses. Pfaser is now residing at Deseos Arabians for additional training. Follow Pfasers progress on his page at www.DeseosArabians.com.
